Stop Burning Trees

Our reliance on fossil fuels must end. We need to invest in alternative sources of energy that are clean, accessible, affordable, sustainable, and reliable.
Renewable energy sources are all around us, they have the power to create jobs and make energy bills cheaper for households.
In the UK we continue to classify burning trees- biofuels- as renewable. Burning trees is highly polluting and involves deforestation of primary forests, yet legislative loopholes have enabled this biomass to be classified as renewable.
The energy company Drax is the world’s biggest tree burner. They supply up to 6% of the UK’s electricity and are the UKs single largest carbon emitter.
Drax sources 99% of its wood from primary forests around the world. The UK is importing ecological destruction under the guise of ‘renewable energy’.
The UK government is paying energy firm Drax £2 million a day, money that’s meant for renewable energy. Over the last 12 years this subsidy scheme- UK taxpayers money- has paid shareholders of Drax more than £7bn.
Ed Miliband, Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, has stated “Britain was once a climate leader. It can be again”. The Secretary of State has also said his “department will be at the heart of the new government’s agenda, leading one of the Prime Minister’s 5 national missions, to make Britain a clean energy superpower with zero carbon electricity by 2030, and accelerating our journey to net zero”
We must ensure that these are not just words from the government- we need action.
Both our new labour government and MPs across the country must protect the hard-earned money of the UK people and invest in their future, not harmful energy production.
We need forest biomass to be removed from the renewables list.
Please add your voice in parliament to Slash Emissions, Not Trees for a future where we subsidise genuine renewable energy for a cleaner and sustainable future.
