‘Trail Hunting’ is a smokescreen for illegal fox hunting.
Fox hunting is a barbaric form of entertainment that inflicts suffering on innocent animals. The chase itself is terrifying for the foxes, who are often torn apart by hounds once caught. This cruelty is unacceptable in a civilised society, and it is time for legislative action to put an end to it once and for all.
Steve Reed, Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, announced in June that Labour would “end trail hunting that allows for the illegal hunting of foxes, deer and hares to continue”.
Numerous polls and surveys have consistently shown that the majority of the public opposes fox hunting, and it is clear that there is widespread support for a ban.
The overwhelming evidence of the cruelty involved in fox hunting necessitates legislative action.
We need a total ban on this outdated and cruel activity.
What must Labour do?
The new Labour government must introduce a complete ban on trail hunting.
The Hunting Act of 2004 needs strengthening- not in a year or five years time, if Labour are committed to animal welfare then this must be a priority within the first 100 days of government.
What can you do?
Nature doesn’t have a voice- but you do. Use that voice by writing to your MP. Ask them to support a complete ban on trail hunting.
