Net Zero rollbacks- one more ground!
We were granted judicial review back in march on the then-government’s decision to rollback key Net Zero policies.
We applied on five grounds, and were granted the application on three of these.
This week I have been granted permission on a further ground, previously refused, to challenge the Prime Minister’s decision last September to roll back on his Net Zero commitments.
This additional ground alleges the government failed to comply with its duty to inform the public of all of these decisions and to explain their impacts on the country’s trajectory to net zero.
I say the public has the right to know when the government changes its plans on climate policy and the impact that’s going to have on the path to net zero. This week the court agreed on that point and it will be considered in the full hearing in November.
I’d like to thank everyone for their donations supporting this legal case and to my excellent lawyers at Leigh Day and Matrix Chambers who are driving this challenge to the courts.
