Scientists say ‘No New Oil’ outside Parliament
On September 4th 2023 we joined forces with over a hundred Scientists from across the UK in response to Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s announcement to “max out” North Sea oil and gas production through approval of over a hundred new drilling licences.
As MPs returned from recess, scientists were there en masse to greet them with a simple message; the science is clear- no new oil and gas. The oil party is over. Scientists, lining entrances to the Houses of Parliament, invited their MPs and Ministers to meet them, as constituents and professionals, to discuss how new fossil fuel projects are not compatible with legally binding climate commitments nor with protecting people from the deadly impacts of the climate crisis.
